Alwizah graduated with a Bachelor of Law LLB (Honours) from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom in 1997. She completed her postgraduate studies at the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators at Kensington School of Business, London, in 1999. Admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2000 she practised as a lawyer for 7 years before she became an Associate member of the Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (MAICSA) in 2007 and was elected to the Fellowship in 2016.
Upon graduating in 1997, Alwizah began her career at Zaid Ibrahim & Co. (now ZICO Law) in 1999, practicing as a Legal Associate in the capital markets and banking departments. She was involved in various corporate exercises, including mergers and acquisitions, legal due-diligence exercises, securitisation transactions and corporate finance. In 2003, she joined Zul Rafique & Partners as a Legal Associate, representing local and international financial institutions in restructuring exercises and providing legal advisory services. In 2006, Alwizah joined Intellectual Property Services Sdn Bhd (now ZICO Corporate Services Sdn Bhd) as Manager and was promoted to Executive Director in 2010.
She founded AKAL Corporate Advisors in 2013. To further expand the secretarial services, she established AKAL Advisors PLT to offer other supplementary services, including accounting and payroll services.
Alwizah currently serves as an Independent Non-Executive Director and Chairman of several public listed companies in Malaysia, playing a critical role in ensuring good governance and offering objective perspectives based on her extensive legal and corporate secretarial experience. Her expertise allows her to effectively chair and sit in key committees, such as nomination and remuneration committees and audit committees, where she ensures transparency and accountability.
Alwizah is also a dedicated trustee and honorary secretary of the Tun Suffian Foundation Incorporated, a non-profit organization that awards scholarships to students pursuing degrees and postgraduate studies. Through this role, she continues to support and promote educational opportunities for Malaysian students. She is avid about health, frequently participating in outdoor activities such as running, hiking and diving. In addition to her adventurous pursuits, she has also been featured in numerous TV and online commercials and has garnered accolades from beauty and health contests. As an ambassador for a prominent pharmacy, she passionately advocates for health and wellness initiatives.
